Ugadi Review

This is a remake of Telugu film 'Santosham' - the reputed director here in Kannada Saiprakash has blindly followed the remake. In journalism there is a saying no good story is written. It is always re-written. At least while bringing the remake director should have used his discretion and made some modification or given a clear thought about the contents of the film whether it has appeared in any other Kannada films of the trailblazer V.Ravichandran career. The first half of the film is similar to Ravichandran's earlier film 'Ondaagona Baa'. Where is the novelty, where is the effort to safe guard the interest of the producer. Look at Ravichandran tummy. A captain of the ship- director should have taken care in such aspects. Has director Saiprakash gone blind?

The saving grace of this film is Jennifer Kotwal acting, Sadhu Kokila and Ranganaya Raghu comedy, Master Nayan who is like a 'laddoo' and Srikanth a Telugu actor's graceful entry to Kannada and H.C.Venu's splendid cinematography.

Sanjay (V.Ravichandran) an architect is in love with Cauvery (Kamna Jethmalani). Against all odds they get married. Cauvery is permanently cut off from family. At the time of delivery of child she dies and Sanjay is to looking after the child. Both living in Switzerland arrive for a marriage in Cauvery's family. The head of the family decline to accept this cut off relationship but the narration of the past in Switzerland by Sanjay melts the stony heart of head of the family. Enters Priya (Jennifer Kotwal) a cousin of Cauvery on the scene and she is immensely in love with Sanjay even before Sanjay marriage to Cauvery. But the elders in the family have found Arjun (Srikanth) as the pair for Priya. Arjun is seeking help of Sanjay in his love materializing but things go beyond the control. Priya insisting that she is interested in Sanjay makes Arjun to draw away from his aspiration. In the climax as you expect happens.

Ravichandran at the 25th year of his career has to be careful in picking this type of subject. He makes a very casual presence and he is very fat. There is no contribution from his side. Jennifer Kotwal has given a cool and composed performance after a naughty beginning. Jennifer should work out a lot to look how she was in the 'Jogi' days. Kamna Jethmalani is a wrong choice. Srinivasamurthy is the best choice in the supporting cast. Srikanth of Telugu films gives a nice performance and his Telugu accent Kannada is tolerable. Sadhu and Raghu comedy tickle the funny bones.

R.P.Patnayak has maintained the same tunes in this film from original. He has lost his musical touch of beginning days it seems. H.C.Venu gives wonderful treat to eyes through his camera.

If you have enough time go and watch this film!
