Most directors prefer shooting their songs on foreign shores not only to give the background a visual enhancement but also to save the fans from the boredom of watching the oft repeated steps by the hero and heroine. The master Mani Ratnamm, however, has seldom shot outside India barring a few rare occasions as his songs always contain important content of the story in them.‘Kannathil Muthamitaal’ starring Madhavan and Simran was shot in Sri Lanka but it was essential as the story is set there. Mani first shot a song on foreign shores featuring Aishwarya Rai and Abishek Bachan for ‘Guru’ in Turkey. Now for the Karthi-Aditi Rao Hydari starrer ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ Mani Ratnam has chosen the snow covered mountains of Europe to shoot a duet song. Even for this song the ace director had planned to shoot in Himachal Pradesh but due to a snag in getting permission he has decided to move offshore.
